I've spent two full days hacking away at my script, trying desperately to make it work. I couldn't do it.
This update has broken me for the foreseeable future. I doubt it will get done unless someone forks the project and somehow manages to get around the insane dependencies that the packages in the Ubuntu repos have.
Sorry.

thats too sad =(
won't you know something similar that i could do for not installing all those shitty programs that come prepackaged?
Get Arch Linux or something of that nature.
don't give up man. the world is relying on you! no pressure then... ;)
i dunno about ur script but i am being able to set up gnome and xfce minimal desktops in natty maybe u need to break it up instead of putting everything in 1 script. dont give up mate.
hi aveilleux, i'm going to try your script on this build:
http://buildinganalienontopofxp.weebly.com/
i see you mention several releases of your script. what version do you recommend for my build? it's a lucid build.
You need to remove the Ubuntu-Desktop metapackage and replace it with one of your own.
hi there. have you tested with the flag -no-install-recommends ? I will try this as soon as possible:
nir=-no-install-recommends
Replace: aptitude -y <-> apt-get $nir -y
Thanks for your script. Will test it
I know this is months old, but what about, gnome-core, or gnome-session-fallback in 11.10. Try those.
